Industrial Projects @ LabVIEW Academy : Completed Projects
Diesel Engine Health Monitoring System
Gopika Sharma, Deeksha Anand, Aditya Saxena
Under the Guidance of: Ms. Shilpa Sambhi
Project carried out at: AKGEC-NI Lab VIEW Academy, Ghaziabad
With a growing demand for transportation IC engines have gained lot of importance
in automobile industry. It is therefore necessary to produce efficient and economical
engines. While developing an IC engine it is required to take in consideration all
the parameters affecting the engines design and performance. It therefore, becomes
necessary to account for relevant parameters while testing an engine and determine
the measures to be taken to improve the engines performance.
The project focuses on the development of a comprehensive diagnostic tool for condition
monitoring and systematic analysis of diesel engine. Particularly attention focuses
on the machine health monitoring of diesel engines its range of temperature, acceleration
and exhaust gases by using various sensors. It provides the basis for proactive
maintenance and operational decisions based on the actual machinery condition.
Health monitoring helps the operations to have a live, exceptionally accurate and
highly reliable control and report system, which at the same time is cost efficient.
Therefore, it makes the entire system leaner by reducing the maintenance costs,
damage risks, and missing information errors .Diesel engine health monitoring System
is a modular system which allows an adaption to your requirements and system condition
LabVIEW provides the flexibility of integration of data acquisition software/hardware
with the sensors the system developed through this procedure will have the capability
to monitoring of various parameters of diesel engine.

Project carried out at: AKGEC-NI Lab VIEW Academy, Ghaziabad
This project deals with the face recognition techniques using NI Vision, LabVIEW,
GigE Vision Card and Camera. Face recognition is a very challenging task. On the
one hand, its applications may be very useful for personal verification and recognition.
On the other hand, it has always been very difficult to implement due to all different
situation that a human face can be found. Among the law enforcement applications,
some representative examples are differentiation between entertainment (video games,
virtual reality and training programs), smart cards (driver’s license, passport
and voter registration) and information security (TV parental control, cell phone
and database security).

Project carried out at: AKGEC-NI Lab VIEW Academy, Ghaziabad
In this fast developing world of technology engineers keep on inventing new technology
and exploring better techniques to further improve the present methodology. Electric
motors as very well known plays a very important role in many engineering applications.
Engineers always search for an efficient and easy way to control these motors. The
techniques of controlling these motors are plenty, among which is the sound. This
project aims to control the speed and the direction of rotation of a DC motor through
speech which is one of the natural forms of communication. The programming of this
project will be done in LabVIEW which provides a graphical programming environment
using intuitive graphical icons instead of writing lines of text. The DAQ NI USB6009
will act as interfacing equipment between the hardware and the personal computer.
This project is mainly developed with an aim to reduce the need for human intervention,
cost, space and time.
Design & Development of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system for License plates
using LabVIEW & Machine Vision
Rubita Kanoujia
Under the Guidance of: Mr. Aniruddha K. Gautam
Project carried out at: AKGEC-NI Lab VIEW Academy, Ghaziabad
An Optical Recognition System using LabVIEW and Machine Vision is one kind of an
Intelligent Transport System and is of considerable interest because of its potential
applications in highway electronic toll collection and traffic monitoring systems.
This type of applications puts high demands on the reliability of an OCR System.
The purpose of this work was to develop a real time application which recognizes
license plates from cars at a gate, for example at the entrance of a parking area
or a border crossing. The system, based on regular PC with video camera, catches
video frames which include a visible car license plate and processes them. Once
a license plate is detected, its digits are recognized, displayed on the User Interface
or checked against a database. The focus is on the design of algorithms used for
extracting the license plate from a single image, isolating the characters of the
plate and identifying the individual characters. The Proposed system has been implemented
using Vision Assistant & LabVIEW The performance of the system has been investigated
on real images of about many vehicles. Recognition of about 98% vehicles shows that
the system is quite efficient.
